SUNTV Global Channel has learned that Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo, the member representing Kwami/Funakaye/Gombe Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives, has died following a prolonged illness.
The federal lawmaker reportedly passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
News of his death was announced by former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, who disclosed the development in a statement shared via his verified social media account.
According to Pantami, he had visited the late lawmaker earlier on Friday alongside associates and family members at the hospital. He revealed that Tongo’s health condition appeared critical during the visit, prompting concerns about his recovery.
Hon. Tongo was elected into the House of Representatives during the 2023 general elections and later defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in March 2026.
Pantami described the deceased lawmaker as a dedicated representative of the people of Gombe, Kwami, and Funakaye, expressing sadness over the loss while offering prayers for his eternal rest and strength for his family.
