Fresh tension has gripped Ogbe and neighbouring communities in Kogi State following a deadly bandit attack along the Ogbe–Egbe Road, where five travellers were abducted and one person sustained gunshot injuries.

According to reports gathered by SUNTV Global Channel, the incident occurred on Friday as a group of residents travelled from Ogbe to Egbe to attend the wedding ceremony of an Ogbe indigene resident in Egbe.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the travellers were ambushed by heavily armed assailants at the boundary area between Ogbe and Koro, a stretch of the road long notorious for security threats.

During the attack, the gunmen reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, shooting one of the occupants, who was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital for emergency medical treatment. The attackers then abducted five other passengers, forcibly taking them into the surrounding bush.

The incident has sparked fear and outrage among residents, many of whom say bandit attacks along rural roads in the area have become increasingly frequent.

Community members have once again called on security agencies and the Kogi State Government to urgently deploy more patrols and surveillance along the Ogbe–Egbe axis to curb the rising wave of kidnappings and armed attacks.

As of the time of filing this report, security operatives had yet to issue an official statement, while efforts are reportedly ongoing to track down the attackers and secure the release of the abducted victims.

SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments and bring updates as the situation unfolds.
