Tragedy has struck in northern Nigeria as suspected terrorists launched a deadly attack along the Jikamshi–Funtua axis in , killing four people, including a member of the (NYSC).
According to reports, the victims were ambushed on Monday evening by heavily armed bandits while travelling along the notorious route, which has become a hotspot for violent attacks.
Among those killed were identified as Saidu Nasir and Saidu Liman, also known as Kalipha. Liman, an NYSC member, was said to be on his way to complete his monthly clearance when the attackers struck.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the victims were shot at close range, leaving their bodies riddled with bullets. The incident has since thrown families and communities into deep mourning.
Security sources confirm that the attack occurred along the dangerous Jikamshi–Funtua road, an area increasingly plagued by banditry and ambushes targeting commuters and residents.
A statement by local security observers described the slain corps member as a young man dedicated to his education and national service, lamenting that his death highlights the growing insecurity facing Nigerians—especially youths participating in mandatory national assignments.
The statement further questioned the government’s response to persistent attacks in the region, asking how many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken to secure highways.
Residents have repeatedly raised alarm over the deteriorating security situation, calling on authorities to intensify patrols and restore safety along major roads.
The latest killings add to the rising toll of violence across and other parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups continue to operate, leaving communities in fear and uncertainty.
