The government of Russia has strongly condemned the recent coordinated airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran, describing the military action as a “premeditated and unprovoked act of armed aggression.”
In a sharply worded statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow accused Washington and Tel Aviv of deliberately escalating tensions in the Middle East at a time when diplomatic talks were reportedly underway.
According to the statement, Russia considers the strikes particularly alarming because they were allegedly carried out under the cover of renewed negotiations, which officials say undermines trust in diplomatic processes.
The ministry further argued that the attacks represent a violation of international law and the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter.
“This was a premeditated and unprovoked act of armed aggression,” the statement said, adding that it was “reprehensible” for such operations to be conducted during a period of active diplomatic engagement.
Despite its strong condemnation, Russia signaled a willingness to help de-escalate the crisis. Officials stated that Moscow is prepared to assist in mediating talks and supporting efforts aimed at finding a peaceful resolution.
Meanwhile, leaders of the European Union, including Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, described the situation as “deeply concerning,” urging all sides to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize civilian protection.
EU officials also stressed the importance of diplomacy to prevent a broader regional conflict, while raising concerns about nuclear safety and long-term regional stability.
The airstrikes, carried out on Saturday, marked a dramatic escalation in tensions linked to Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes. In response, Iran launched missile attacks targeting U.S. and Israeli military positions in the region, reportedly resulting in casualties, including civilians.
Global leaders continue to warn that further escalation could push the Middle East toward a wider and more dangerous conflict.
