Fresh violence has rocked as suspected bandits carried out a deadly attack on Gurbi Village in , leaving at least 11 people dead and others injured.
The incident, which occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, has once again raised concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of northern Nigeria.
Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, , said the assailants invaded the village and opened fire on residents before security operatives could intervene. Two persons reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries during the assault.
According to the police, a joint security team comprising officers of the Nigeria Police Force, military personnel, and other agencies swiftly responded after receiving a distress call. However, the attackers fled the scene upon sighting the advancing forces.
Authorities say calm has since been restored to the affected community. The injured victims have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the deceased have been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, , has ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to prevent further attacks. He also directed intensified patrols and closer collaboration with local communities to strengthen intelligence gathering.
The police command extended its condolences to the bereaved families and assured residents that efforts are underway to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies as investigations continue.
