Armed bandits on Tuesday night attacked Bakura town in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving one resident with gunshot wounds, rustling an unspecified number of cattle, and looting valuables from several residents.
According to reports, the attackers shot a resident identified as Sufiyanu Anah during the raid before fleeing with livestock and personal belongings.
The gunmen also reportedly seized mobile phones belonging to Umaru Mandi, the Bakura Ward Chairman under Governor Dauda Lawal’s political structure, as well as those of another resident, Tukur Sama’ila, popularly known as Tukur O C, and his wife.
Residents said the assailants operated freely within the community, leaving many families in fear as the attack added to the growing insecurity affecting several parts of Zamfara State.
Security analyst Bakatsine, who confirmed the incident, described the attack as another reminder of the persistent security challenges confronting rural communities across northern Nigeria.
He noted that residents continue to suffer repeated attacks resulting in the loss of lives, livestock, and valuable property despite ongoing security operations in the region. He also wished the injured victim a speedy recovery and called for lasting peace in the affected community.
The latest incident highlights the continuing threat posed by armed bandit groups in Zamfara State, where communities have frequently been targeted in attacks involving killings, kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling, and widespread looting.
Although security agencies have intensified military operations against criminal groups across the North-West, many rural communities continue to experience recurring attacks, raising renewed concerns over the region’s security situation.
