Suspected bandits have abducted a newly installed traditional ruler, his wife, and one other person in Olayinka community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when armed men reportedly stormed the monarch’s palace at about 1:40 a.m., firing sporadically before taking the victims to an unknown destination.
According to a local source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the attackers arrived heavily armed and operated without resistance as residents were thrown into panic.
“The bandits invaded the palace around 1:40 a.m. They came with guns and took the monarch away. Everyone was too scared to react,” the source said.
The abducted monarch was said to have been recently elevated and officially installed by the Kwara State Government earlier this year, making the incident particularly shocking to residents of the community.
This latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Kwara South, where cases of abduction involving traditional rulers have been on the rise. Reports indicate that at least two monarchs were kidnapped in the region in 2025 and later released after ransom payments.
Residents have expressed fear over the increasing frequency of such incidents and have called on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to improve safety and protect lives and property.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, efforts are reportedly ongoing to secure the release of the abducted victims.
