President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a high-level security meeting with Bala Mohammed at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as fresh bandit attacks continue to unsettle communities in Bauchi State.
The governor visited the President to deliver an urgent briefing on the worsening security situation, particularly in Alkaleri Local Government Area, where armed groups have reportedly intensified violent raids.
Speaking to journalists after the closed-door meeting, Mohammed described the situation as “deeply disturbing,” stressing that swift federal intervention is needed to prevent further escalation.
According to him, the attacks have led to killings, kidnappings, and mass displacement, leaving residents in several affected communities living in fear.
“I updated Mr. President on the troubling activities of bandits in Alkaleri, which require immediate and decisive attention,” the governor said.
Beyond security concerns, the meeting also touched on recent political shifts across the country, including ongoing defections from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Governor Mohammed acknowledged that elected officials have the constitutional right to choose their political affiliation but reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the PDP despite the wave of defections.
Recent reports indicate that border communities in Bauchi have faced repeated incursions by gunmen, prompting urgent calls from residents for stronger security presence.
Security agencies have since deployed additional personnel to troubled areas as part of ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace and protecting lives.
