JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua delivered a remarkable comeback victory on Saturday night, overcoming two early knockdowns to stop Albanian fighter Kristian Prenga in the second round of their heavyweight clash.
Joshua endured a nightmare start after Prenga landed a powerful uppercut that sent the former world champion to the canvas twice within the opening 20 seconds. Despite the early setback, Joshua regained his composure and responded with a series of devastating right hands in the second round, forcing a stoppage and securing the 30th victory of his professional career.
The victory keeps Joshua firmly on course for a long-awaited heavyweight showdown against fellow British boxer Tyson Fury later this year, with both fighters coming off impressive wins over the weekend.
Following the emotional victory, Joshua dedicated the fight to his late friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, who lost their lives in the car crash he survived in December 2025.
Speaking after the bout, an emotional Joshua said:
“It’s more than punch power. That was spirit, that was Latz, that was Sina. It has been tough. They’re my brothers.”
Joshua also praised Prenga for his courage and resilience, describing the Albanian as a strong and durable opponent who has a bright future in the heavyweight division.
