The Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of fast-rising Afrofuji singer, Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The young artiste reportedly passed away at the age of 22, sending shockwaves across social media and entertainment circles nationwide.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of death remains unknown, with no official statement released by his family or management. However, news of his sudden passing spread rapidly online, leaving fans, colleagues, and industry stakeholders in disbelief.
Shortly after the announcement of his death, a previous social media post by the late singer resurfaced and quickly went viral. In the post, Destiny Boy reflected on ambition, struggle, and mortality, writing: “Either I make this money or I die young, money must be made.” The statement has since sparked emotional reactions and deep reflection among fans in light of his untimely demise.
A video circulating online and reportedly published by Kwara Eaglet, and seen by SaharaReporters, showed the late musician’s body being transported in a bus to an undisclosed location. In the video, claims were made that he vomited an unknown substance before his death, though authorities are yet to provide any medical or official clarification on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Destiny Boy’s death comes barely over a year after he welcomed his first child, a baby boy, with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024. At the time, the singer shared his joy with fans, writing: “Alhamdulillah. Junior is here. My first son.”
Born and raised in Lagos, Destiny Boy began his creative journey at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he honed his craft. He initially worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji legend Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, an experience that significantly influenced his musical direction and exposure within the Fuji music community.
He rose to national prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If,” which went viral and earned him widespread recognition as a fresh voice blending traditional Fuji with modern sounds.
Following that breakthrough, Destiny Boy released several other Fuji-inspired covers of songs by top Nigerian artistes including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, helping to redefine Fuji music for a younger audience and solidifying his place in the emerging Afrofuji genre.
His original songs, such as “Lamba,” “One Transaction,” “Gbese,” “Billion Dollar,” “Mio Gbonkankan,” and “Lowkey,” showcased his unique sound—a fusion of indigenous Fuji rhythms with contemporary Nigerian street music.
Since the news of his passing broke, tributes have continued to pour in from fans and fellow artistes, with many expressing sorrow, disbelief, and prayers for his family, especially his young child.
