The (ADC) in has announced plans to stage a major protest at the office of the (INEC), citing alleged interference in the party’s internal affairs.
The planned demonstration, tagged “Occupy INEC,” is scheduled for April 21, 2026, and is expected to draw party members and supporters from across the state.
Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting in Enugu, the ADC State Youth Leader, , said the protest aims to compel INEC to recognise what the party describes as its legitimate leadership led by .
According to him, the party is demanding that INEC update its official portal to reflect the recognised leadership structure, warning that failure to do so could undermine internal democracy and fairness ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are embarking on a peaceful protest to demand that the right thing is done. INEC must remain neutral and not interfere in internal party matters,” he stated.
Uchenna-Odi accused the electoral body of overstepping its constitutional role by allegedly interpreting court rulings concerning the party’s leadership crisis—an action he insists falls outside the commission’s mandate.
The controversy stems from conflicting directives within the party’s national structure, particularly the emergence of two separate lists from the office of the National Organising Secretary, each claiming authority over state congresses.
Despite the confusion, the ADC insists that the current leadership across states remains valid until May 12, 2026, pending resolution by the national body.
The party also raised concerns about alleged bias by INEC, warning that such actions could erode public trust in the electoral process if not addressed.
In addition, the ADC cautioned members of the public against dealing with individuals it described as impostors posing as party officials or soliciting funds in the state.
Local government officials have also backed the protest. Chairman of Igbo-Eze South, Izuchukwu Ugwu, criticised INEC’s role, arguing that interpreting court judgments is beyond the commission’s authority.
He emphasized that the protest is intended to ensure due process and fairness, not confrontation.
The party, however, reassured residents that the demonstration would be peaceful and conducted within the bounds of the law.
