The Nigerian military has announced a major counterterrorism breakthrough in Adamawa State, confirming that troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have dismantled a suspected suicide bombing network linked to the recent Gamboru Market Mosque attack, arresting eight suspects during coordinated security operations.
In a statement released on Monday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said the arrests were the result of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and targeted operations against individuals believed to be behind the planning and facilitation of the deadly attack.
Intelligence-Led Raid in Mubi South
According to the military, troops acting on credible intelligence carried out a cordon-and-search operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday. The operation led to the arrest of eight suspects, including two key figures identified as principal facilitators within the suicide bombing network.
A search of the suspects’ residence reportedly yielded several items of intelligence value, including cash, mobile phones, ATM cards, identification documents, jewellery, and other personal effects. The military said all recovered items are currently undergoing forensic analysis to aid ongoing investigations.
Suspects Linked Directly to IED Supply Chain
Lieutenant Colonel Uba disclosed that during preliminary identification procedures, a suspect already in custody positively identified the two principal suspects as individuals who supplied materials used in assembling the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) deployed in the mosque attack. Other occupants of the residence were also found to have direct or indirect links to the terror network.
“All suspects are presently in military custody and undergoing detailed interrogation to extract further actionable intelligence,” Uba said, adding that they will be handed over to relevant authorities for continued investigation at the appropriate time.
Terror Logistics Intercepted in Separate Operation
In a related operation on Sunday, January 4, troops intercepted a large cache of suspected terrorist logistics in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The operation led to the seizure of 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)—estimated at 1,125 litres—believed to have been smuggled to support terrorist activities.
The suppliers reportedly fled the scene upon sighting troops, abandoning the petroleum products, which are now in military custody pending further action. No casualties were recorded during the operation.
Military Reaffirms Commitment, Calls for Public Support
The military said the successful operations underscore its resolve to dismantle terrorist cells, disrupt logistics and supply chains, prevent future attacks, and bring all perpetrators and collaborators to justice across the North East.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with security agencies, stressing that timely information from the public remains critical to sustaining peace and security in the region.
