Suspected terrorists who abducted seven construction workers in Oba community, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of ₦500 million for their release, SUNTV Global Channel reports.
A family source confirmed on Wednesday evening that the kidnappers have established contact and are insisting on the full payment before freeing the victims. The abduction has plunged families of the workers and residents of the community into fear and uncertainty.
“The kidnappers have reached out and demanded ₦500 million for the release of the seven construction workers,” the source disclosed.
“We are appealing to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their safe release.”
The victims were seized while working on an ongoing construction project in Oba community. Among those kidnapped are two staff members of the Kwara State Ministry of Works, further heightening concerns over the safety of public sector workers in the state.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed the construction site suddenly, overpowered the workers, and forcefully marched them into the bush without facing immediate resistance.
SUNTV Global Channel recalls that this incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Kwara State. In a related development earlier reported, Nigerian troops arrested suspected bandits in Ifelodun Local Government Area, intercepting them while allegedly patrolling with AK-47 rifles in a local security patrol vehicle.
In a video from the arrest, the suspects were seen restrained on the ground as soldiers questioned them about their activities and the source of the weapons. One of the suspects, speaking in Hausa and Pidgin English, claimed the patrol vehicle and rifles were provided by the Kwara State government, alleging they had been conducting patrols for some time.
“We have been here for quite a while. We are using the vehicle for patrol. Wallahi, na the truth I dey tell you,” the suspect said, further alleging that the weapons were collected by their superior and that multiple individuals were involved.
As investigations continue, residents and civil society groups are urging authorities to act swiftly to rescue the abducted workers and restore security across vulnerable communities in Kwara State.
