The Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has criticised reported restrictions on Christian preaching in public buses, arguing that Christians should enjoy the same freedom of public worship as adherents of other religions.
Speaking during a church service, the cleric described the policy as unfair, questioning why Christians would be prevented from preaching in public while other religious groups are permitted to use loudspeakers and microphones during their activities.
According to Ibiyeomie, equal treatment of all religious groups is essential to maintaining peace and religious harmony in Nigeria. He maintained that Christians should be allowed to openly practise and share their faith without discrimination.
The pastor also criticised some Christian leaders for what he described as their silence on issues affecting the Christian community, alleging that some had failed to speak out on matters of public concern.
Commenting on the country’s current challenges, Ibiyeomie said government attention should be focused on addressing insecurity, terrorism, economic hardship, hunger, and other pressing national issues rather than restricting religious activities.
He warned that policies perceived as targeting any religious group could heighten tensions, urging authorities to ensure fairness and equal treatment for all Nigerians regardless of faith.
Pastor Ibiyeomie also expressed concern over what he believes are attempts to promote religious imbalance in the country, insisting that Nigeria should remain a nation where every citizen is free to practise his or her religion peacefully.
