The has disciplined a soldier serving in the North-East after he allegedly exposed poor feeding conditions among troops, insisting that viral images circulating online misrepresented the true situation.
The soldier, attached to Operation Hadin Kai in , was sanctioned following an internal investigation by the military high command. Authorities claimed the images shared did not accurately reflect the standard of welfare and feeding provided to personnel in the theatre of operations.
In a statement, the Joint Task Force’s Media Information Officer, , said the military reviewed the viral post and concluded that it was a “deliberate misrepresentation” of facts.
According to him, the image circulated was only a partial depiction of the rations issued at the time and failed to show the full provisions available to troops. He maintained that soldiers deployed across the region are fed according to approved standards, with additional provisions often made during festive periods to boost morale.
The army further explained that feeding arrangements are monitored through structured internal systems, including food committees made up of personnel across different ranks, ensuring oversight in meal planning and distribution.
Despite repeated complaints from troops in the region about poor welfare, unpaid allowances, and inadequate equipment, the military opted to discipline the soldier under the Armed Forces Act rather than address the allegations publicly.
The development comes amid ongoing concerns over troop welfare in the fight against insurgent groups in the North-East. In recent years, several anonymous videos and reports have surfaced showing soldiers lamenting poor conditions, including inadequate food supplies while engaged in frontline operations.
However, the army has urged the public to disregard such reports, describing them as misleading and sometimes driven by individuals seeking attention or financial gain, while insisting that the welfare of its personnel remains a top priority even under challenging operational conditions.
