Tensions across the Gulf region escalated further on Saturday after Kuwaiti authorities confirmed fresh Iranian strikes on key infrastructure, while Bahrain announced that its air defence systems intercepted multiple aerial attacks targeting the country.
According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water, the latest strikes hit critical power and water desalination facilities, triggering large fires and forcing the shutdown of several electricity generation units.
Emergency responders were deployed to contain the blazes, with Kuwaiti fire authorities confirming that several firefighters and a facility worker sustained injuries during the operation.
The attacks also disrupted air travel, prompting Kuwait International Airport to temporarily suspend flight operations as authorities responded to the heightened threat posed by rockets and drones.
Meanwhile, air-raid sirens sounded repeatedly across Bahrain as the kingdom responded to what officials described as multiple waves of aerial attacks.
The Bahraini military said its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed several incoming projectiles before they reached their intended targets.
Iranian state media later reported that the country’s military had deliberately targeted the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, a facility used by United States forces, describing the operation as retaliation for recent U.S. military strikes on Iranian territory.
Iran also claimed that drones struck aircraft shelters, fuel storage facilities and other military infrastructure at the base. However, Bahraini authorities maintained that most of the incoming threats were intercepted, and those Iranian claims had not been independently verified.
The latest developments mark another sharp escalation in the growing confrontation involving Iran, the United States and their regional allies, raising fears of a wider conflict across the Gulf.
Regional governments and international observers continue to monitor the rapidly evolving situation amid increasing concerns over security, civilian safety and the stability of the Middle East.
