LAFIA, NASARAWA STATE — The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death following a domestic dispute over food in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday after an argument between the couple reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation inside their residence.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said officers attached to the Agyaragu Police Division received a distress report at about 12:30 a.m. and immediately responded to the scene.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Lafia, where medical personnel confirmed her dead. Her body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending further examination.

Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and allegedly confessed during interrogation. He reportedly told investigators that he assaulted his wife in a fit of anger after she allegedly refused to prepare food for him, a disagreement that tragically turned fatal.

The deceased is survived by two children—a boy and a girl—from the couple’s six-year marriage.

Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Mohammed, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a comprehensive investigation.

The Commissioner assured residents that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations. He also condemned all forms of domestic violence, describing the incident as both tragic and avoidable.

He urged couples to resolve disagreements through peaceful dialogue rather than violence, warning that domestic abuse often results in irreversible consequences.

The police further assured residents that security has been strengthened in Agyaragu and surrounding communities, adding that the situation remains calm while investigations continue.
