The Irigwe community has held a mass burial for nine people killed during a deadly attack on Angwan Magaji in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Southern Kaduna, in a solemn ceremony marked by grief, prayers, and renewed calls for justice.

The victims, who lost their lives in the June 16 attack, included five children, one woman, and three other residents. Several others were also injured when armed assailants stormed the community.

Families, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects as emotional scenes unfolded during the burial. Mourners called on both the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Government to take stronger action to protect vulnerable communities from recurring attacks.

Community leaders described the incident as another tragic reminder of the persistent insecurity affecting Southern Kaduna and parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt. They appealed to security agencies to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the killings.

According to community representatives, the June 16 attack initially left several people missing before search efforts confirmed that nine residents had been killed. Eleven others reportedly sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

Residents also urged authorities to strengthen security across the region and prevent further loss of innocent lives, stressing that repeated attacks have continued to leave communities living in fear.

The mass burial ended with prayers for the victims and renewed demands for lasting peace, justice, and improved security across Southern Kaduna.
