ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal murder of retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at her residence in Ogun State.
According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, the prime suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip (22), a former employee of the deceased, confessed during interrogation that he masterminded the attack to “teach her a lesson” over grievances he allegedly held from the period he worked for her.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, CP Ojajuni disclosed that the tragic incident was reported on June 21, 2026, after suspicious activities were noticed at Madam Oyesiku’s residence.
Police detectives who responded to the scene discovered the lifeless body of security guard Pelumi Adetayo inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood within the main building.
Investigators also discovered that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV had been stolen from the premises, prompting an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering and technical tracking.
The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered on June 22, despite efforts by the suspects to conceal its identity by removing the number plates and ignition key. Police said the registration plate was later found hidden beneath one of the vehicle’s seats.
A major breakthrough in the investigation came from a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the crime scene. According to the police, forensic analysis of the note provided crucial leads that helped investigators identify and track down the suspects.
The principal suspect, Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta. Further operations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola (27) and Sobu Obafunsho (36).
Police said Philip confessed to recruiting the two suspects to participate in the attack.
According to investigators, the suspects first overpowered security guard Pelumi Adetayo before using him to gain access to Madam Oyesiku’s residence. Once inside, they allegedly attacked and killed the retired broadcaster before later murdering the security guard.
Following the killings, the suspects reportedly fled with the victim’s vehicle, which was later recovered through intelligence-led operations.
Further searches conducted by detectives led to the recovery of several exhibits believed to be connected to the crime, including a broken hammer, cutlass, plank, black pen and other materials.
The Ogun State Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that all suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CP Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and bringing everyone connected to the crime to face the full weight of the law.
