Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly sponsoring an assassination attempt on the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun Larooye II.

The governor made the allegation in a statement shared on his official social media platform, where he condemned what he described as growing political violence in the state and called on security agencies to take immediate action.

According to Governor Adeleke, the revered monarch was allegedly attacked within his palace by armed political thugs. He claimed that several residents were injured during the incident and described the attack as an assault on the entire Osogbo community.

Adeleke challenged APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, an indigene of Osogbo, to publicly address the allegations and call party members to order.

The governor warned that political ambitions should not be pursued through violence, insisting that power must be obtained through democratic processes rather than intimidation and bloodshed.

The allegations were accompanied by a video in which the Ataoja of Osogbo recounted previous attacks allegedly directed at him and members of his family.

In the video, the monarch claimed that his son had previously been shot by unknown assailants and alleged that he was also targeted inside the palace on the same day. He appealed for peace and urged politicians to settle differences through the ballot box rather than violence.

Oba Larooye II also expressed support for Governor Adeleke’s administration, praising developmental efforts in Osogbo while calling on political actors to avoid actions capable of destabilising the state.

Governor Adeleke has now called on the Inspector-General of Police to launch an urgent investigation into the alleged attack and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.

The allegations have further heightened political tensions in Osun State as preparations for future political contests continue.
