Former Kano State Governor, , has addressed growing uncertainty surrounding his political future, confirming ongoing consultations with multiple parties amid escalating tensions within the (ADC).
In a statement released late Saturday titled “Clarification on My Political Position,” Kwankwaso dismissed widespread reports suggesting he has finalized plans to defect, particularly to the (NDC), alongside figures like .
He clarified that no final decision has been reached, but acknowledged that recent developments have placed the ADC in a fragile and uncertain position.
Kwankwaso revealed that the party is grappling with a series of legal setbacks, including a Supreme Court ruling that, while affirming the leadership of the -led National Working Committee, also returned the matter to a lower court—leaving the party’s stability in question.
More concerning, he noted, is a move by the Attorney General of the Federation seeking to deregister the party entirely, alongside a Federal High Court judgment invalidating the ADC’s recent convention.
Describing the situation as “externally influenced,” Kwankwaso warned that the mounting legal pressure could threaten the party’s survival, prompting urgent consultations with other political platforms, including the NDC and the (PRP).
“We have commenced wide-ranging consultations… to explore the best options moving forward. A decision will be announced soon,” he stated.
Addressing speculation about his potential 2027 presidential ambition, Kwankwaso firmly denied declaring any intention to run, stressing that the ADC has neither zoned its ticket nor endorsed a candidate.
He also explained his absence from recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings, attributing it to personal commitments rather than any political fallout.
Reaffirming his commitment to party unity and national interest, Kwankwaso pointed to his political history—highlighting his support for after the 2014 APC primaries and his role in coordinating the northern campaign for during the 2019 elections.
As Nigeria’s political landscape begins to take shape ahead of 2027, all eyes remain on Kwankwaso, with analysts predicting a decisive move in the coming days that could significantly alter the balance of power.
