Tension is rising in following serious allegations by a family who claim their 17-year-old daughter was abducted, forcibly converted, and married off in under questionable circumstances.
The teenager, identified as Jinkai Yusuf Simon, reportedly went missing on March 9, 2026, after leaving home for school in Zaria but never returned. She is said to be a student of St. Bartholomew’s Secondary School in Wusasa.
According to family members, suspicion grew after reports emerged that some of her belongings had been moved to a friend’s residence prior to her disappearance. Further inquiries allegedly revealed that she had been in contact with a man identified as Abdulsamad, who reportedly gave conflicting identities when approached.
Weeks later, the family claims they were shocked to see images allegedly showing the teenager in a hijab, bearing a new name and said to be married in Kano. They insist she is a minor and could not have legally consented to such actions.
The case was reported to local authorities, including community leaders and the Department of State Services (DSS), but the family alleges that no decisive action has been taken so far.
Concerns have also been raised over documents said to have emerged from Kano, allegedly reflecting a change in the girl’s identity, age, and marital status. The family has rejected these documents, describing them as falsified and misleading.
A community leader in Wusasa confirmed that the matter was escalated to security agencies, while religious figures have condemned the alleged incident, calling for urgent intervention and protection of the teenager’s rights.
Meanwhile, attempts to get an official response from the Kano State Hisbah authorities were ongoing as of press time.
The incident has drawn comparisons with a recent case in involving another teenager, where swift action by authorities led to her release—raising concerns among observers about possible inconsistencies in response to such sensitive cases.
Human rights advocates are now calling for a transparent investigation, warning that failure to act decisively could deepen public distrust and inflame tensions.
As of the time of this report, authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive statement, and the whereabouts and condition of the teenager remain unclear.
