Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have cracked down on suspected cult activities in a major operation that led to the arrest of eight individuals and the recovery of illicit drugs in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.
The raid, carried out by the Command’s Special Anti-Cult Unit in Enugwu-Ukwu, targeted a notorious criminal hideout located in Eze-Allah — an area long identified as a hotspot for cult-related activities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement and activities of cult groups within the community.
He revealed that the coordinated raid, which took place on the evening of April 16, resulted in the arrest of eight suspects: Chidalu Nwafor (27), Chiemerie Nwazueje (24), Chima Arwuike (25), Jideobi Emeka (26), Oliver Okonkwo (18), Izuchukwu Christian (18), Onyebuchi (21), and Walter Idouzour (44).
Police operatives also recovered quantities of suspected cannabis sativa and other dangerous substances believed to be linked to the suspects.
SP Ikenga emphasized that the growing spread of illicit drugs continues to fuel criminal activities, particularly among youths involved in cultism and violent crimes.
“The prevalence of hard drugs remains a major enabler of criminality. This operation highlights the urgent need for sustained enforcement and stronger collaboration with members of the public,” he stated.
The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and further investigation. Authorities say they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the ongoing inquiries.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to flushing out criminal elements across the state, assuring residents that operations against cultism and drug-related crimes will be intensified.
