U.S. President has declared that the United States will not use nuclear weapons against , downplaying fears of escalation and emphasizing reliance on conventional military strength.
Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Trump dismissed suggestions of a nuclear strike as unnecessary, citing what he described as successful U.S. military operations carried out without nuclear force.
“Why would we use a nuclear weapon when we’ve already achieved so much through conventional means?” Trump said, pushing back against a reporter’s question.
Despite his rejection of nuclear action, the U.S. leader maintained a firm stance against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, insisting that Washington remains fully committed to preventing Tehran from acquiring such weapons. He claimed that American forces had already neutralized a significant portion of Iran’s military targets.
“We’ve taken out about 75 percent of our targets,” he stated, adding that operations were scaled back to allow room for peace efforts.
Trump’s remarks follow his recent announcement of an indefinite ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, extending an earlier temporary truce. However, he confirmed that a full blockade on Iran remains in effect, describing it as “completely effective.”
The president also pointed to internal instability within Iran, suggesting it has complicated diplomatic engagement.
“They’re dealing with serious internal issues right now,” Trump noted. “We’re giving them time to sort things out.”
While confirming ongoing discussions between Washington and Tehran, Trump declined to provide a clear timeline for a potential agreement, urging patience as negotiations continue.
The latest comments mark a softer tone compared to his earlier warnings of severe consequences if tensions escalated further, signaling a possible shift toward diplomacy while maintaining strategic pressure.
