Proceedings in the trial of four suspects linked to the deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba community have been stalled at the following the absence of defence counsel.
The suspects, arraigned in Court 12 in , were unable to take their plea after requesting an adjournment to secure legal representation.
The defendants—identified as Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (alias Auwalu Dogo), Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (alias Yaroro), and a fourth unnamed suspect—are facing charges filed by the Plateau State Government over their alleged involvement in the March 2026 massacre.
According to the prosecution led by the State Attorney General, , the suspects are accused of conspiracy and terrorism-related offences under the Plateau State Penal Code Law, 2017.
Court documents allege that the accused “planned, organised, facilitated, and financed” the attack on Angwan Rukuba, which resulted in the deaths of more than 30 people, including women and children.
The suspects were reportedly arrested by the between April 3 and April 10, 2026.
The massacre forms part of a broader wave of violence that has rocked several communities in Plateau State, particularly in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas.
Reacting to the killings, Governor described the attacks as a “genocide,” rejecting claims that the violence stems from farmer-herder clashes.
Meanwhile, President has assured residents that security measures are being intensified and that justice will be served.
With no defence counsel present, the court has yet to fix a new date for arraignment, leaving the suspects in custody as families of victims await justice.
