The Government has dismissed widespread reports claiming 10 new cases of , clarifying that only a single case has been confirmed in the state.
Speaking during an interview on , the State Commissioner for Health, , described the reports as misleading and inaccurate.
“I want to use this opportunity to tell Nigerians that the information circulating about 10 additional cases is not correct; we have only one confirmed case,” Ayuk stated.
He explained that the confusion likely arose from the identification of 10 individuals who had contact with the infected patient, not new confirmed infections.
According to health authorities, the confirmed case involves a foreign national who arrived in Nigeria and later developed symptoms before testing positive. The patient is currently receiving treatment at the in Calabar.
Providing an update, Ayuk revealed that the patient is responding well to treatment and improving steadily under medical supervision.
He added that all close contacts have been identified and are being monitored for a 14-day period as part of containment efforts.
Despite the low number of cases, the state government has activated its emergency response systems, including surveillance and public health management structures across local government areas.
“It’s an outbreak situation, and even a single case poses a risk. We are not taking it lightly,” Ayuk emphasized.
Health officials continue to urge residents to remain cautious and adhere to preventive measures, noting that COVID-19 has not been completely eradicated globally.
