A dramatic scene unfolded at the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, as Justice issued a stern warning to lawyers, threatening contempt charges and possible imprisonment over delays in an ongoing case involving the (EFCC) and former Attorney-General of the Federation, .
The judge made it clear she would no longer tolerate tactics capable of frustrating court proceedings, emphasizing discipline and strict adherence to timelines.
Tensions rose when EFCC counsel, , informed the court that defence counsel, , was absent due to engagements at the Court of Appeal. Okutepa also expressed dissatisfaction over how the case had been handled so far.
In a firm response, Justice Abdulmalik reminded all parties that the interim forfeiture order had already been published for 14 days, giving room for objections. She then set a clear directive:
Any lawyer who fails to file necessary processes before the deadline will be considered to have forfeited their right to participate.
In her words, the courtroom will not entertain “rascality,” warning that any unruly conduct could lead to lawyers being cited for contempt, docked, and possibly jailed.
The court has now ordered all parties to file and serve their documents on or before April 27, 2026. Any submission after that date will not be recognized.
The case has been adjourned to May 26, 2026, for hearing, as the legal showdown between the EFCC and Malami intensifies.
