A major political storm has erupted within the (ADC) in Adamawa State, as a powerful faction loyal to announced a mass resignation from the party, citing what they described as a “total collapse of internal democracy.”
The dramatic decision followed a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on April 18 at the residence of Hon. Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama. In a communiqué jointly signed by Kugama and the group’s secretary, Hon. Saidu Njobdi Komsiri, the faction declared that both the state and national leadership of the party had lost legitimacy.
According to the statement, the party leadership was accused of imposing candidates, disregarding valid court orders, and sidelining genuine members during the recently concluded congresses.
“The actions of the leadership have undermined the rule of law and destroyed internal democracy, making the party structure in Adamawa State unacceptable,” the group stated.
The stakeholders also alleged that the congresses, conducted under the supervision of Ishaya Bauka (Rtd), were manipulated and imposed against the will of the majority of party members. They described the process as one marked by intimidation, exclusion, and disregard for judicial rulings.
In a bold move, the faction passed a vote of no confidence on the party leadership and announced their “immediate and irreversible resignation en masse,” rejecting the outcomes of the congresses as “null and void.”
The crisis is further deepened by allegations that key political figures, including and , played roles in fueling divisions within the party—claims that have intensified the internal power struggle.
The group has now mandated Senator Binani to spearhead a new political direction, including negotiations to align with another platform ahead of the 2027 general elections. Plans are already underway to coordinate a large-scale defection structure across polling units, wards, and local government areas in Adamawa State.
They also pledged to embark on aggressive grassroots mobilisation and political reorganisation to rebuild their influence under a new party.
Meanwhile, the (INEC) had earlier suspended recognition of any faction within the ADC pending court rulings on the leadership dispute.
With the mass exit of key stakeholders and deepening internal divisions, the ADC now faces a serious threat to its political relevance in Adamawa State as the race toward 2027 begins to take shape.
