The National Vice Chairman (South West) of the Labour Party, , has called on President to reverse the recent transfer of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for , describing the action as unlawful and unconstitutional.
In an open letter dated April 16, 2026, Arabambi also demanded the removal of Mrs. Toyin Babalola, who was appointed to replace the former REC, alleging that her appointment violates constitutional provisions and public service rules.
He argued that the process surrounding the transfer and appointment did not follow due constitutional procedures, insisting that Resident Electoral Commissioners cannot be removed or replaced without proper approval and oversight.
Arabambi further stated that the actions taken within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) amount to a breach of electoral integrity and could undermine public confidence in the electoral system.
He also questioned the legality of appointing Mrs. Babalola, alleging that she had previously retired from INEC and should not have been reappointed into the same position. He described the move as a violation of civil service regulations and constitutional guidelines.
The Labour Party chieftain warned that such decisions could set a dangerous precedent, allowing political interference in the operations of electoral officials ahead of future elections.
He urged the presidency to immediately restore the former REC and halt what he described as irregular appointments, while calling on the National Assembly to strengthen oversight over electoral processes.
Arabambi also appealed for broader intervention to protect electoral credibility, warning that continued controversy within INEC could damage public trust in upcoming elections in Osun State and beyond.
