Nigeria stood still in grief on Wednesday as the nation bid a final farewell to some of its bravest defenders, including Brigadier General Omo Braimah and Captain Azubuike Michael Esimai, who were নিহত in a deadly террорист attack in the North-East.

Military honours marked the ceremony, including gun salutes, presentation of national flags to bereaved families, and the reading of the officers’ service records—each word echoing sacrifice, courage, and duty.
Tears flowed freely as families mourned their loved ones, a painful reminder of the human cost of Nigeria’s long-running insurgency.
Senior officials, including defence and military leadership, reaffirmed their commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring peace in the troubled North-East, vowing that the sacrifices of the fallen would never be forgotten.
For over a decade, insurgent groups have terrorised communities and security forces across the region, turning the conflict into one of Nigeria’s most enduring security challenges.
In a statement, the Nigerian Army described the fallen soldiers as heroes whose bravery continues to inspire the nation.
“Their sacrifice is a powerful reminder of the price paid daily to protect Nigeria’s unity and peace,” the statement read.
As the bugles faded and the graves were sealed, one message rang clear across the nation—freedom comes at a cost, and these men paid it in full.
