A High Court sitting in Yola has stopped the planned state congress of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State, further deepening the party’s internal leadership crisis.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Kyanson S. Lawanson on Thursday, April 10, 2026, followed an ex-parte application filed by Isreal Ishaku against key party figures, including Hon. Barr. Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin, the ADC, and Brig. Gen. (Rtd) Ishaya Bauka.
The court ordered that the planned congress—intended to elect a new state chairman—must be suspended pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Justice Lawanson directed all parties to maintain the status quo, stressing that the application had merit based on the supporting affidavits and exhibits presented before the court.
The ruling effectively restrains party stakeholders from taking any steps that could alter the current leadership structure of the ADC in Adamawa State until the case is fully heard and determined.
The case, filed under Suit No: HC/ADSY/64/2026, has been adjourned to April 17, 2026, for hearing.
Political observers say the decision highlights ongoing factional struggles within the ADC in Adamawa, a state seen as strategically important in Nigeria’s opposition politics due to its ties with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The halted congress, originally scheduled for April 9–10, is the latest in a series of disputes reflecting deep divisions within the party’s state structure.
