A group of officers from the 2020 intake of the Nigeria Police Force has raised serious concerns over what they describe as prolonged career stagnation, lack of promotion, and unfair salary practices within the Force.
In a formal appeal addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, the officers lamented that despite over four years of active service, they have neither been promoted nor received salary adjustments that reflect their seniority.
The officers, enlisted on January 10, 2022, said they have served diligently across various commands nationwide, maintaining discipline and professionalism. However, they expressed deep frustration over what they see as neglect of their career progression.
According to them, members of their intake have completed the required years of service necessary for advancement but are yet to move to the next rank.
They warned that the delay in promotion is affecting morale within the Force, stressing that career progression remains a key motivator in any structured and disciplined institution.
More concerning, the officers claimed that junior colleagues from subsequent intakes — including 54, 55, and 56 — are currently earning the same salaries, despite having fewer years of service.
They argued that such a pay structure undermines the principle of seniority, which traditionally determines both rank and remuneration in paramilitary organisations.
“We believe that seniority and length of service should be reflected in both rank and salary progression,” the officers stated, calling for urgent intervention.
The aggrieved personnel appealed to the police leadership to address the situation by granting due promotions and implementing salary adjustments in line with their years of service.
Despite their grievances, the officers reaffirmed their loyalty and commitment to the Force, pledging continued dedication to its mission under the current leadership.
The development highlights ongoing concerns about welfare, motivation, and internal equity within the Nigeria Police Force, an institution already facing criticism over working conditions and operational challenges.
