April 9, 2026 — SUNTV Global Channel Reporting

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has sparked fresh political speculation after holding a closed-door meeting with lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja, fueling reports of a possible defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Sources indicate that the meeting focused on ongoing political realignments across the country and the potential shift of the governor to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Ismaila Dabo, who represents Toro Federal Constituency, confirmed that the meeting was convened at the invitation of the governor to deliberate on key political and developmental issues affecting the state.

“We are here on a special invitation to discuss the ongoing realignment happening in Nigeria, particularly in Bauchi State, and to address critical issues concerning the development of our state,” Dabo stated.

He revealed that the discussions ended on a positive note, with both parties reaching preliminary understandings, while further consultations with key stakeholders are expected before any final decision is made public.

According to him, engagements with political leaders and stakeholders across Bauchi State will continue in the coming days to build consensus.

Although Governor Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, has not officially confirmed plans to defect, the high-level meeting has intensified speculation about a possible political shift in the state.

The development comes amid increasing political maneuvering and alliance-building across Nigeria, as parties begin early positioning ahead of the next general elections.
