The United States is reportedly weighing the deployment of approximately 10,000 more troops to the Middle East, even as Donald Trump signals willingness to pursue peace talks with Tehran.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the additional forces would include infantry and armored units, joining the Marines and paratroopers already stationed in the region. The troops could be positioned near Iran and Kharg Island, a strategic oil export hub in the Persian Gulf, which remains a potential target.
Despite military escalation, Germany’s Foreign Minister confirmed ongoing indirect negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, with representatives planning to meet soon in Pakistan.
Trump has reiterated that he would extend the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning of potential strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure if the terms are not met, following Tehran’s rejection of a 15-point U.S. peace proposal deemed unfair.
This development underscores the tension between military preparedness and diplomatic efforts as the United States navigates a delicate balance in the Persian Gulf region.
