The United States Department of Defense has requested an additional $200 billion in emergency funding from the administration of Donald Trump to sustain the ongoing war with Iran.
According to reports, the Pentagon has formally asked the White House to forward the request to Congress for approval, in what could become one of the largest wartime funding packages in recent U.S. history.
Massive Military Spending Push
The proposed $200 billion budget is nearly double the total U.S. spending on Ukraine since the 2022 conflict with Russia, highlighting the scale and intensity of the Iran war.
Speaking during a White House event, President Trump described the situation as “uncertain and volatile,” stressing the need for stronger military readiness.
“We want to have vast amounts of ammunition, but it was taken down by giving so much to Ukraine,” Trump said.
He added that the funding is necessary to maintain America’s global military dominance:
“It’s a small price to pay to make sure that we stay at the top.”
Officials Signal More Spending Ahead
While U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth did not confirm the exact figure, he acknowledged that increased defence spending is unavoidable.
“It takes money to deal with bad actors… This kind of funding will ensure we are properly prepared going forward,” he stated.
Meanwhile, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett revealed that the war has already cost the United States about $12 billion, raising concerns about the long-term financial burden.
War Timeline Remains Uncertain
The conflict, which began after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, was initially expected to last four to five weeks. However, President Trump has since admitted that the war could drag on longer than anticipated.
Despite recent optimism from Washington about a possible quick resolution, Iranian officials have pushed back strongly.
A spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated:
“Iran will determine when the war ends.”

The latest development signals a deepening standoff between the United States and Iran, with potential implications for global security, oil markets, and international alliances.
