Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered firearms during a raid on a criminal hideout in Gidan Akuya Village.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Ramhan Nansel, operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) acted on credible intelligence before storming the hideout. Some members of the gang reportedly fled during the operation.

The police confirmed the arrest of a suspect identified as Jibril Yunusa, 43.

During a search of the hideout, officers recovered:

  • One AK-47 rifle
  • One empty magazine
  • One locally fabricated rifle

Police said Yunusa confessed during interrogation to participating in several kidnapping operations across the Keana and Awe axis of the state and provided information to support ongoing investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed security operatives to intensify efforts to track down other fleeing members of the gang and bring them to justice.

He also commended the officers involved in the operation and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Authorities urged members of the public to provide useful information that could help security agencies arrest the remaining suspects and dismantle criminal networks operating in the area.
