SUNTV Global Channel reports that insurgents linked to Boko Haram have released a disturbing video claiming they have taken control of Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, while threatening to rename the town and expand their campaign toward Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
In the video circulating online, a leader of the extremist group, speaking in Hausa, declared that the fighters were already inside the town and vowed that nothing would stop them from openly holding Eid prayers there.
The militant faction, historically associated with the jihadist group Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihad, mocked Nigerian authorities while claiming responsibility for violent attacks carried out during the invasion.
According to the insurgent leader, the group had successfully entered the community, killed several residents and captured women and children during the raid.
Referencing the Islamic calendar in the video message, the militant said the fighters were acting under the authority of their late commander, Imam Abu Ba’iba.
“Today we are here in Ngoshe town. Some people said we could not do anything, but here we are. By God’s will, we will change the name of this town and perform the Eid prayer openly here,” the speaker said.
He further insisted that the insurgents had no intention of retreating and planned to establish a permanent presence in the community.
“This town is Ngoshe and we are inside it. By God’s grace we will celebrate Eid here and make it our home,” the militant declared.
The video also showed the insurgents boasting about acts of violence allegedly carried out during the attack, including displaying what they claimed were severed heads of victims.
The group further claimed that several women and children had been taken captive but insisted they were not harmed.
Security sources had earlier confirmed that Ngoshe, located near mountainous border regions frequently used by insurgents as hideouts, came under coordinated attacks in the early hours of March 4.
The terrorists reportedly stormed the town around 4 a.m., launching simultaneous assaults on both civilian areas and a military facility belonging to the 82 Division Task Force Battalion.
During the attack, the gunmen allegedly invaded an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp, searched homes for soldiers they believed were hiding, and set multiple military vehicles and armoured tanks on fire.
Local sources also revealed that the attackers carted away an unknown quantity of ammunition before withdrawing toward nearby mountainous areas.
As of the time of filing this report, Nigerian security authorities have yet to issue an official response to the claims made in the video.
