A senior officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abubakar A. Balteh, has died following a tragic road accident, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
According to an official statement released by the Borno State Police Command, the late officer was until his death serving as the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Borno State.
Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, who signed the statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, described ACP Balteh as a highly dedicated and professional officer who remained committed to duty throughout his years of service.
“His passing is a painful loss to the Command and the entire policing community,” the statement noted.
Authorities did not disclose detailed circumstances surrounding the crash but assured that further information, including burial arrangements, will be announced in due course.
The Command extended heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and associates, offering prayers for the repose of his soul and invoking the Islamic expression: “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un” — meaning, “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.”
ACP Balteh’s death is considered a significant loss, particularly to the Criminal Investigation Department, where he played a critical leadership role in coordinating investigations and strengthening law enforcement operations across the state.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fellow officers and members of the public, as the Command urged citizens to remember the late officer’s family in their prayers during this period of mourning.
