At least nine Palestinians have been killed following new airstrikes by Israel across parts of Gaza, with several victims reported among families sheltering in a tent camp for displaced civilians, according to local emergency officials.
Palestinian civil defence authorities said one of the strikes directly hit a makeshift encampment housing displaced residents, killing at least four people. In a separate attack in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, health officials confirmed that five others lost their lives, as reported by Reuters.
The latest bombardments come amid renewed tensions over alleged violations of a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Israeli military officials stated that the strikes were launched in response to what they described as a “blatant ceasefire breach” in the Beit Hanoun area on Saturday. According to the Israeli Defence Forces, armed militants reportedly emerged from a tunnel east of a demarcation zone known as the “Yellow Line.”
The military maintained that the operations were “precise” and conducted in accordance with international law, accusing Hamas of committing multiple ceasefire violations, including deploying fighters in restricted zones near Israeli troops.
However, humanitarian workers say civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence, particularly displaced families living in temporary shelters with limited protection, healthcare, or basic supplies.
Both Israel and Hamas have repeatedly traded blame over the collapse of ceasefire terms, which were part of a broader peace framework previously promoted by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Since the ceasefire agreement took effect, Gaza’s health authorities claim more than 600 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, while Israel reports that four of its soldiers have died in militant attacks during the same period.
