Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is set to face sentencing today after being convicted of terrorism charges. The prosecution, led by Adegboyega Awomolo, has urged the court to impose the maximum sentence, citing Kanu’s use of social media to incite chaos and violence.
The court is expected to deliver its verdict by 4:50 pm, with the prosecution also requesting restrictions on Kanu’s social media use and safe custody arrangements due to concerns about his safety at Kuje correctional center.
Kanu was convicted on seven counts of terrorism, with the prosecution arguing that his actions incited attacks on security personnel and public facilities in the South-East. The defense has appealed for leniency, but the prosecution is pushing for the death penalty or life imprisonment.
