Barely days after the shocking abduction of 177 Christian worshippers in Kurmin Wali community, bandits have again struck in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, kidnapping four travellers in a fresh attack that has deepened fear across the area.
Community sources confirmed to SUNTV Global Channel that the victims were abducted on Friday evening while returning from Maro Market. They were travelling in a Peugeot Boxer bus with registration number DKA 680 ZY (Kaduna) when armed men intercepted them along the Maro–Kajuru axis, shortly after Kuturu Buzu, just a few kilometres from Kurmin Wali.
According to a source who requested anonymity for security reasons, the assailants forced the vehicle to stop before dragging the victims into the surrounding bush.
“They were simply coming back from the market when the bandits attacked and took them away into the bush,” the source said.
The latest incident has heightened anxiety among residents of Kajuru and neighbouring communities, who say kidnappings and violent attacks have become almost routine, with little visible deterrence.
Efforts to get official confirmation from the Kaduna State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls or text messages at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, residents are calling on security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the abducted victims and restore confidence in the area.
Insecurity Spreads Across Kaduna–Katsina Axis
The renewed attack in Kaduna comes amid growing alarm in parts of Katsina State, where residents of Southern Maska in Funtua Local Government Area have also raised concerns over worsening insecurity, despite reported peace agreements between local authorities and armed groups.
Community members say bandits continue to unleash attacks, issue threats, and impose levies—locally referred to as haraji—on villages, making daily life unbearable.
Affected communities reportedly include Unguwar Mailaya, Asharaha, Burma, Gobirawa, Gwangwari, Dan Tudu, Tudun Maje, Kurku, Ganwai, Yar Tasha, Gursudu, Batarawa, Gidan Alhaji Koshe, Dan Kunsai, Hayin Gishiri, Unguwar Dini, Gidan Soda, Yambu, and several surrounding settlements.
Sources said the villages have endured repeated killings, kidnappings, and large-scale theft of livestock and valuables, forcing many residents to flee their homes.
“Just two nights ago, gunmen tried to attack Unguwar Mailaya but were repelled by residents,” a source disclosed. “They later moved to Kauran Fawa in Dandume Local Government Area, where eight people were reportedly killed.”
Residents further alleged that bandits have grown bolder, now placing direct phone calls to villagers to threaten attacks or demand payments—an indication, they say, of the near-total absence of security presence.
“They call us on the phone, threatening us and demanding money. There are hardly any security personnel here, and that is why they are so bold,” a resident lamented.
As fear spreads across the Kaduna–Katsina axis, communities are once again urging federal and state authorities to move beyond statements and deploy effective security measures to halt the relentless wave of violence.
