The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Abuja, has ordered workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to immediately halt their ongoing strike, following an application filed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The court issued the interlocutory injunction on Thursday, restraining leaders and members of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) from embarking on any strike action, protest, or activity capable of disrupting the operations of the FCTA.
The ruling comes days after FCTA workers commenced an indefinite strike on Monday over the alleged non-payment of promotion arrears and other outstanding entitlements.
Delivering the ruling, Justice E. D. Subilim held that the applicants—the FCT Minister and the FCTA—had established sufficient grounds for judicial intervention. The court consequently barred the union from striking, picketing, blocking roads, locking offices, or taking any step that could cripple the administration’s activities.
The application was argued by the FCTA’s legal team led by Dr. Ogwu J. Onoja, SAN, who maintained that the strike was illegal and posed a serious threat to governance and public service delivery in the nation’s capital.
The named defendants, Rifkatu Iortyer and Abdullahi Umar Saleh—identified as the President and Secretary of JUAC—were absent from court during the proceedings. In their absence, the court approved substituted service of court processes on the defendants.
Justice Subilim adjourned the matter to Monday, January 26, 2026, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
