At least three people have been confirmed dead following the devastating fire outbreak at the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Martin Street, Lagos Island.
According to an official casualty report released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the bodies were recovered three days after the inferno from the collapsed section of the high-rise structure. The deceased include one adult female and two adult males.
The agency also confirmed that eight males, including a firefighter who sustained injuries during rescue operations, suffered varying degrees of harm. All were treated at a hospital and later discharged.
In addition, five other victims — three males and two females — sustained minor injuries at the scene. They received first aid treatment and were subsequently released.
Meanwhile, intensive Search and Rescue operations are still ongoing as emergency responders work to locate other persons reportedly trapped in the building. The operation involves LASEMA Response Teams, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Authorities have assured the public that all necessary efforts are being made to ensure the safety of responders and to recover any remaining victims.
