A major political realignment is unfolding ahead of the 2027 general elections, as former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is set to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The former presidential candidate has reportedly held strategic meetings with key political stakeholders, including Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, Rauf Aregbesola, and Seriake Dickson, as part of efforts to build a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
The development comes amid a deepening political rift between Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf. Governor Yusuf recently defected from the NNPP to the APC alongside several lawmakers, a move Kwankwaso strongly opposed, describing it as a betrayal.
