WASHINGTON D.C., UNITED STATES — U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened a military response against Iran after alleging that Iranian forces shot down a United States Apache helicopter during a patrol operation over the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Trump disclosed that he had been briefed by the U.S. military regarding the incident, which reportedly occurred on Monday night.
“I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump stated.
According to the U.S. President, two pilots were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident and both survived without injuries.
“There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” he added.
The White House has yet to provide additional details regarding the alleged attack, including how the pilots escaped unharmed after the helicopter was reportedly brought down.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran over military activities in the Persian Gulf region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important oil transit routes.
Iranian media reports suggested awareness of the incident, although Tehran has not officially claimed responsibility for the alleged attack.
The development has further intensified concerns among international observers about the possibility of a direct military confrontation between the United States and Iran.
Shortly before Trump’s statement, Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with Washington, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, issued a warning that many analysts believe was directed at the United States and its allies.
“We prefer the language of diplomacy, but we speak other languages far more fluently. Break your commitments, and we’ll switch to what we speak best,” Qalibaf reportedly said.
The latest development coincides with fresh Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, further increasing tensions across the Middle East.
The Strait of Hormuz has long been a flashpoint between Iran and the United States. Previous confrontations involving naval vessels, military drones, and commercial shipping have repeatedly raised fears of a wider regional conflict.
