Residents of several communities in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State have reportedly fled their homes following fresh attacks by suspected bandits, with women, children and elderly persons among those displaced.
The attacks reportedly affected communities including Ungushi, Maikurfuna and Gwandi, with residents from Ungushi arriving in Kebbe town from about 8pm on Saturday.
According to reports from conflict reporter Bakatsine, many of the displaced residents were forced to spend the night in the rain after escaping from the affected communities.
Local sources reportedly said the attackers rustled more than 300 cattle and seven camels from Ungushi and Gwandi during the incident.
Several men were also reportedly killed in the attacks, although the exact number of casualties remained unclear as of the time of reporting.
Two victims, identified as Usman Umar Margai and Sani Abdullahi Gwandi, were reportedly receiving treatment at the General Hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries.
More displaced residents were said to have continued arriving in Kebbe on Sunday morning as concerns over the safety of those still in the affected communities persisted.
The development followed an earlier security alert issued on Saturday night, warning that suspected bandits were attacking Ungushi and calling for urgent intervention by security agencies.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over attacks on rural communities in parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to carry out raids, abduct residents and steal livestock.
Residents and community sources are calling for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further displacement.
