A security operative in Imo State has been captured in a viral video allegedly demanding a ₦10,000 bribe from a motorist after confiscating the victim’s mobile phone during a checkpoint stop.
The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, reportedly shows the unidentified operative seated inside a security vehicle while instructing the motorist to obtain the money from the vehicle’s driver.
In the recording, the operative is heard saying:
“Go and collect ₦10,000 from your driver. Tell the driver to borrow you ₦10,000.”
According to reports, the operative was unaware that the mobile phone he had seized from the motorist was still recording, capturing both his face and the conversation during the alleged extortion attempt.
The incident has sparked public outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation and appropriate disciplinary action if the allegations are confirmed.
The identity of the operative has not been officially disclosed, and the relevant security agency had not issued a formal statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid continued calls by human rights groups and civil society organisations for greater accountability, professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights by security personnel across the country.
SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as official authorities respond to the allegations.
