The United Arab Emirates has announced the suspension of all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran, citing growing regional tensions and concerns over threats to regional and international peace and security.
The decision was announced by Afra Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communications Department at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement posted on Tuesday.
According to Al Hameli, the suspension will remain in effect until further notice, with the UAE government linking the move to what it described as “regional escalations” that could undermine peace and security.
“All trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice,” Al Hameli said.
Despite the suspension, the UAE said it remains committed to dialogue, regional cooperation and integration as avenues for promoting stability and prosperity.
Al Hameli also dismissed what she described as allegations concerning the current state of economic relations between the UAE and Iran, while stressing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to international standards governing the global financial system.
The announcement represents a significant development in the relationship between the two countries, which have maintained substantial commercial and economic ties despite longstanding political and geopolitical tensions in the region.
The UAE Foreign Ministry did not specify how long the suspension would last, maintaining that the measures would remain in place until further notice.
