The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has confirmed the killing of two of its members following a violent attack in Osogbo, the state capital, and has accused individuals allegedly linked to the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of being responsible.
According to the party, the attack occurred on Wednesday and left two APC members dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The APC alleged that the attackers were political thugs with links to aides and appointees of the state government. The party further claimed that one of the victims has been identified as Adelodun Lateef Olalekan, popularly known as “Lexy,” a prominent APC member in Osogbo Local Government Area.
The allegations come amid growing political tension in Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
Earlier on Thursday, Governor Adeleke condemned a separate suspected cult-related killing in Osogbo and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the killings and the subsequent violence as unacceptable and called on security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute all those involved.
Governor Adeleke also rejected allegations linking his administration to the incidents, insisting that neither he nor the Osun State Government had any involvement in the violence. He urged residents to disregard what he described as false and misleading reports while allowing security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement identifying the perpetrators or confirming the circumstances surrounding the attacks.
Investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
