Suspected Bandits Attack Kwara Community, Kill Woman, Abduct Resident as Villagers Flee

Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked Lata Nna Community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing a woman, abducting one resident, and forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes.

According to residents, the attack occurred on Sunday morning when heavily armed gunmen stormed the community and opened fire indiscriminately, creating panic among residents. Witnesses said many people fled their homes in search of safety as the assailants moved through the area.

Residents told journalists that one woman was confirmed dead after she was reportedly attacked while gathering firewood near the community. They also expressed fears that additional casualties may have occurred, although the exact number had not been independently confirmed at the time of this report.

Community members further alleged that another resident had been abducted a day earlier while returning from his farm. According to the residents, the kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded a ₦100 million ransom for his release.

The affected community lamented what it described as the absence of adequate security personnel despite repeated appeals to authorities over persistent attacks, kidnappings, and killings in the area. Residents have called on the government and security agencies to strengthen security presence and establish a permanent security post to protect lives and property.
